About
Vision
A healthcare experience where people and families feel aligned in their bodies, informed in their choices, and respected as active partners in their care. A system rooted in collaboration, curiosity, and dignity—where questions are welcomed, lived experience is valued, and care supports the whole person.
Mission
My practice exists to provide gentle, evidence-informed, body-inclusive chiropractic care and childbirth education that centres consent, collaboration, and lived experience. I work alongside individuals, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare providers to support comfort, confidence, and connection at every stage of life. My goal is to create care that empowers people to ask questions, seek information, and participate fully in their health—never as passive recipients, but as respected partners.
Values & Principles
-
Alignment Over Authority
Care works best when it aligns with your body, your values, and your goals—not when it’s dictated or imposed. Your voice matters here.
-
Collaboration is Care
Health is not a solo effort. I value working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and with you, recognizing that the best outcomes come from shared knowledge and teamwork.
-
Consent & Autonomy
You are always in control of your care. Consent is ongoing, choices are respected, and nothing is done to you—only with you.
-
Body-Inclusive, Judgment-Free Care
All bodies are worthy of respectful, compassionate care—regardless of size, ability, age, or life stage. Your body is never a problem to be fixed.
-
Curiosity Over Shame
Questions are encouraged. Information is shared openly. Learning about your body is a strength, not something to be minimized or dismissed.
-
Gentle, Evidence-Informed Practice
Care is grounded in current evidence, clinical experience, and responsiveness to your individual needs—always with a gentle, thoughtful approach.
-
Trauma-Informed & Nervous-System Aware
Care is most effective when people feel safe. I approach every interaction with an awareness of trauma, stress, and nervous system regulation—prioritizing predictability, choice, and pacing that supports both physical and emotional wellbeing.
-
Sustainable Care for Real Life
Health care should fit into your life, not add pressure to it. I focus on realistic, accessible strategies and care plans that support long-term wellbeing—recognizing that capacity changes across seasons, especially during pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting.
Dr. Joanna Galasso
(She/Her/Hers)
Originally from Alberta, Dr. Joanna Galasso began her academic journey at the University of Calgary, earning her Bachelor or Science degree and later completing her Bachelor of Social Work. She also conducted research in toxicology at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on the ways biological, chemical, and physical hazards impact human health. During this time, she became increasingly drawn to complementary medicine as part of a holistic approach to wellness, which led her to pursue her Doctor of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, graduating in 2011.
Dr. Galasso has over a decade of experience working with individuals across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and expectant parents, supporting their health and wellbeing through all stages of life. She holds advanced training in prenatal and paediatric chiropractic care and maintains certification in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association, ensuring safe and evidence-informed care for pregnant patients. She is also currently the only chiropractor in Alberta certified in the ROST technique, a specific therapy for treating symphysis pubis dysfunction and pelvic girdle pain.
In addition to her chiropractic work, Dr. Galasso is a DONA-trained birth doula and studied midwifery at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). She has supported clients during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum, offering care that blends clinical knowledge with emotional support. She is also a certified sexual health educator and prenatal/postnatal yoga instructor, further expanding her ability to offer whole-person care.
Currently based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Dr. Galasso offers body-affirming, inclusive, and trauma-informed chiropractic care. Her practice is rooted in a weight-neutral approach that prioritizes patient autonomy, informed consent, and individualized care plans. Being a larger-bodied person, she understands first hand that patients in various body sizes often face stigma in healthcare and is committed to ensuring her practice is a respectful and affirming space. The clinic environment is designed to support comfort and accessibility for all body types, pregnancy stages, and mobility needs, with adjustable tables, supportive positioning, and low-force adjusting options such as Activator and drop-table techniques. Her treatments include a variety of soft tissue therapies (Graston® Technique, Myofascial Cupping), therapeutic taping (KinesioTaping®), individualized rehabilitation exercises, and prescription orthotics.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Galasso is a research collaborator with the Inuit Perinatal Health Hub at the University of Calgary, where she supports initiatives to improve perinatal health equity and access for Inuit families across Canada. Her research and practice are informed by a commitment to Indigenous sovereignty, culturally safe care, and the co-creation of health systems that centre the voices and priorities of Inuit communities.
Whether you're seeking support during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or simply want care from a provider who respects your lived experience, Dr. Galasso works collaboratively with you, and your healthcare team, to support your goals. She brings deep listening, cultural humility, and evidence-informed care to every visit, with a focus on restoring function, reducing pain, and supporting whole-person wellness.
